Hey Marg :wave :wave Wow!!!!! I think we look mighty fine from over your way. I zoomed in on the top picture and can see Newcastle Island to the left of the ferry coming/leaving Departure Bay and can see all the way down to the Duke Point ferry area...the one I normally use. As well, further north I just know our house is in there too, just can't quite pick it out though... :mhihi :mhihi Thanks for posting them :thumbsup

Marg :wave , I enlarged your picture again and recognize Gulfview Drive heading up the hill above the water just to the right of the tallest tree, and it's Long Lake Road that goes further the hill. We would be just up to the left of the top of the tree on the right side of the picture. :thumbsup :)

Feeding the Eagles! Comox, B.C., Vancouver Island , Jan. 2009

In January the weather was so unusually cold that the bald eagles were cruising over the houses looking for helpless cats to make a quick meal. Some kind souls decided to feed the eagles down at Goose Spit so they would survive the cold spell. Here's what happened!

Hi Fay and welcome to this thread :) .....unfortunately these pictures were not taken in the Comox area. They are from an email that was circulating in January and were actually taken in Homer, Alaska. I will find the story and post the link for you...back in a bit.

Thanks for the correction Sandra.
Guess I got taken again believing the details of something someone sent me. But no matter where the pictures were taken I still think they are interesting.

Hi Fay, here's a link to a post from the "Eagles in the News" thread.

viewtopic.php?p=416154#p416154

In the post you will see a link to the story about Jean Keene. Also there's a picture of the large red ball in the article about her.
I received the email about the pictures being taken in the Comox area from about 3 or 4 friends.

Thanks again for popping in, come back again, as we try to update photos here as often as we can. :wave

Hi Fay, I did the same thing too :) . After I found out where the pictures actually came from made we wonder.....how did Comox get into it? :puzzled ..The pictures are lovely and you'll find the story about Jean interesting too. Can you imagine being around that many eagles at one time , pretty amazing :nod.

I think an egg has been laid at the Seabold nest! :D :D

Last night about 5:00 PM, both Seabold parents were in the nest looking at something or tidying the nest. One eagle was still there at 5:30 PM. I went out after that so I don't know if it stayed.

This morning, an eagle was on the nest in incubating position from 7:10 to 11:30 AM. We went out then, but it's been in the same position since we got back at 5:00 PM - and twice I've seen what looks like an egg roll. The mate has been perched in a nearby tree the whole time.

This is quite late compared to last year, when they laid on about March 26 or 27, and compared to other nests like Hornby. However this pair is smart - they have waited till the weather has warmed up, and they missed the April 1 snow and windstorms this week. :thumbsup

WooHoo!!!! That is great news Lesley.... :thumbsup If there is an egg, it has been laid within the past couple of days.

BTW, I was out practicing with my new camera today and was at Pipers Lagoon. I got lots of pics of a herd?? of sea lions just off the beach :nod . There were oodles of seagulls as well, so I don't now if that means the herring are still around :puzzled . There was quite a crowd of people on the beach and we witnessed 2 fights by the sea lions. they were barking, rolling, flipping and making one heck of a racket.

Will post pics when get a chance. I did not see any eagles today, not a one!!! :ecsad

Sandra, I'm looking forward to your sea lion pics.

It's very hard to get a photo of Ma Seabold sitting on her egg - you can just barely see her here (black arrow)
