Maine Coast - Bald Eagle Cam

This is a streaming cam with sound and the potential for night vision, although that won't be turned on until the eagles are spending nights in the nest.

The cam is located in coastal Hancock County, and the eagles have nested at this site for 13 years and raised 20 offspring, making them one of the most successful pairs in Maine. This is a beautiful nest on the coast of Maine.

They fledged two eaglets in 2006, but had tragedy last season - the weather was brutal right after the chicks hatched and they lost them.

Based on past experience, look for eggs in the first half of March, chicks in mid-April, and fledging in early July.

2008 Season:
  • The parents did some restoration of the nest, and were observed mating. The female spent the night in the nest on several occasions, but there was no evidence she laid any eggs. :(

Both eagles appeared on the nest together for the first time in months, on 1st November. Since then, we have heard them a few times and this morning, we could hear them before daybreak. As it became light we could see two eagles on the nest again, but they left soon after. We could hear them roosting last night too, after it got dark which is also unusual.

My Goodness. It is quite scary. Here in the East Kootenay we never see winds like that. Say a prayer for everyone within that storms path.

lady there is still sound on the Maine cam, so I think it's still working. There's not any night vision, but there hasn't been for some time now.

Thank you for the picture, Sharon. I have been out this evening so I missed the sunset.. I'm listening though and it sounds pretty bad.

The cam stopped working during the hurricane Noel this weekend, but we were still able to see what was going on from the 15-second updates from the BRI website. It's working again today, but earlier I managed to capture an eagle on the nest at daybreak - think it was Mom, and then another later in the day, as well as some extraordinarily brave and curious crows, one of which returned later to take some nestovers.

This was probably dad that brought a gull to the nest today and had lunch.
Image

At the end of his meal, he got chased out of the nest and took the remainder of the food with him. Maybe this was mum looking for her lunch and chasing him out.

It was certainly an exciting day today, but not for the poor white gull! A 40 minute feed and appearance of possibly Dad then Mum.

Lovely picture Sharon. :nod

Thank you so much Sharon

It was so exciting to see both adults! This has always been my favorite nest with the exception of the Hornby Island nest which got me addicted in the first place.

I love the body language of the second eagle. "Hey, where did the food go? I know it was here, you didn't leave me any?"

Great pictures Soph9.. eagle remained totally silent, moved around with prey a lot, it was probably a crow. Crows are near and vocal. Eagle stayed around 35 - 40 minutes, I think and then flew off to the right. No eagles calling in the distance either.

Thank you for the update on the maine nest. Can hardly wait for the nest building to begin.

The tribute to the Hornby Mom and Dad was wonderful. The tears just would not stop coming. Just love that pair and hope to see them this year.

Can hear eagles close the nest but none so far in the nest....I have heard them pretty clearly and consistently for the past 2 days.
