Maine Coast - Bald Eagle Cam

This is a streaming cam with sound and the potential for night vision, although that won't be turned on until the eagles are spending nights in the nest.

The cam is located in coastal Hancock County, and the eagles have nested at this site since 1995 and raised 20 offspring, making them one of the most successful pairs in Maine. This is a beautiful nest on the coast of Maine.

They fledged two eaglets in 2006, but had tragedy in 2007 - the weather was brutal right after the chicks hatched and they lost them. They mated and spent time at the nest in 2008, but did not lay any eggs (taking a year off after a nest failure is apparently fairly common)

Based on past experience, look for eggs in the first half of March, chicks in mid-April, and fledging in early July.

2009 Season:
  • adults return: The pair was seen on the nest in late September, and have been visiting the nest regularly throughout the fall, leading us to hope they will nest in 2009

(Information from BioDiversity Research Institute)

I have a slide show from the 15 seconds refresh images from last Saturday. (The live cam was offline again)

http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=4NC7hfoHUdg

It was a lóóóng time ago that we saw both Mom and Dad in the nest together.
All my recordings of this nest are in a playlist : http://nl.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=BCCE14D066DE9F26

Perhaps you can take some pictures of your eagles, Maureen, and post them on the forum. We have special threads for members to do just that.

News on Hurricane Kyle.

Forecasters issued tropical storm and hurricane watches for coastal Maine on Saturday. Kyle, a Category 1 hurricane, is forecast to make landfall late Sunday or early Monday near the border between Maine and Canada.

Stay safe everyone !

I'm going to have to start tuning in to this nest again. I was watching at the beginning of the year up untill I needed WMP for the falcons. pity one can't have more than 1 up. It was amazing seeing them in the nest with the deep snow

Pat if you get Vista they have extra WMP's you can open so you can watch more than one. When it gets busy, I have around 8 open!! LOL

EIGUOC (Pat): :wave

You can have as many WMPs up as you can stand....don't need Vista....I, myself, have WMP 9.....just be sure to open "each" window separately, as opposed to trying to bring them all up in one window. Then, minimize each window on your screen; you will then have a small window for everything you've opened 24 hours a day if you wish.

:wave DEBBIE:

VISTA is part of Windows Operating System....don't go buying VISTA....does not have very good reviews from a lot of owners! It was released, in my opinion, without the proper testing time in BETA. Microsoft was soooo anxious to release it, they didn't wait long enough to get all (or most) of the bugs out. Sooner or later (not too distant future), you'll probably have to switch to it because Microsoft is making it impossible to avoid it...they are (I think already have) phased out the "buying" of Windows XP in favor of this flawed system. I'm hanging onto my XP until it crashes on me. You'll find that if you tried to buy a Windows version below VISTA, you can't find a vendor to sell it to you.

You don't need VISTA....all you need is Windows Media Player...what system are you using??
