Pigeon Forge, Tennessee - Bald Eagle Cam

http://www.eagles.org/eaglecam.htm
The cam is streaming but doesn't have sound.
For WMP users try this:
mms://a507.l1972452506.c19724.g.lm.akam ... ctor:52506

Liberty and Justice, a pair of non-releasable Bald Eagles - female Liberty can only see out of one eye so lacks the depth perception needed to hunt in the wild, while male Justice was found with shotgun pellets in a foot and wing, resulting in permanent injuries that would keep him from hunting successfully. They bonded as a pair in 1993, and have successfully raised 14 of their own offspring and several foster chicks for release to the wild from hacking towers in Tennessee. Their three eggs were infertile in 2005; bad weather caused the collapse of their nest and loss of three eggs in 2006; and the one egg Liberty laid in 2007 was infertile - but in 2008 one of the two eggs she laid hatched, and Liberty and Justice successfully raised the resulting eaglet. :D

Based on past experience, look for eggs in late March, chicks in early May, and fledging in mid to late July. The chicks will be removed from the parents at about 5 or 6 weeks of age and transferred to a nearby artificial nest in a hack tower, where they will be released a few weeks later as part of the American Eagle Foundation's captive release program.

2009 Season:
  • eggs laid: April 3, April 6 and April 10
  • eggs did not hatch

Stay Tuned! The "live" video camera over the nest of our captive breeding pair of bald eagles ("Liberty" and "Justice") will be back on-line by March 15th.

Thanks for letting me this was coming - and guess what! I think Liberty and Justice are being just a little shy (note the two eagle tails at the top of the screen) - and the cam blinked out on me a couple of times - but they're back! :D :D

The cam is only up during daylight hours on the east coast, I think. I tried posting a different WMP link in the first post - but for now, I'd suggest using http://www.eagles.org/eaglecam.htm and then clicking on the picture of the eaglet. I also got a test pattern a couple of times before I got the brief picture of the tails of the eagles. Good luck! :D

Not sure if it will last - but the cam's up at the moment (it had been down for a couple of days). I went to http://www.eagles.org/eaglecam.htm and clicked the link there. One is in the nest and the other is perched on the edge.

Both eagles were in the nest, then Dad Justice went to perch on the edge. Mom Liberty has been standing a long time about where the nest bowl is - you don't suppose...? :D :D

They're an older couple so might not lay eggs - but this is about the time when they would be laying eggs if they're going to do so! :D

Added 5:48 eastern time:
False alarm - Liberty is now moving all around the nest; guess she was just hanging out there. But I do need to remember to keep an eye on this nest - it should be soon! :D

That's wonderful! :D :D :D Thanks so much for posting, seahorse! And welcome to the forum! :D :D

I've been trying to check now and then, but haven't been able to connect today. It was looking as if they were getting ready - so glad to hear the news. :D

thank you for the welcome!! :wave :wave I have been watching this cam for 3 years now and have been looking for a forum. I am so glad I found you, and a plus is that I did at the beginning of the season! Hopefully, there will be a couple of viable and healthy babies this year and we will have a fun season. They have been off the egg quite a bit so I think a second egg is perking....just my unexperienced observation and crossed fingers

I was watching for a little while, seahorse, and agree - it does seem that they often don't incubate the first egg too much if they're expecting a second - just enough to keep it viable. :D

And thanks for the picture, Diana! How wonderful to see Liberty admiring her egg - and you even have Justice perched on the side of your picture! :eclove

Has anyone seen any mating? wondering if we may have a sibling for this egg in the next day or 2? I have had the cam up all day but have had too many distractions, plus am watching the Norfolk triplets, also. They are so darn cute. http://www.wvec.com/cams/eagle.html just in case anyone doesn't have the link.
