Lake Washington, Washington - Bald Eagle Cam

New for 2009 - this cam is now streaming, with night vision! And it was repositioned so there may be a better look into the nest bowl.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife posted the following in 2008 about this cam:
“This year we have retired the Puget Sound EagleCam and replaced it with the Lake Washington EagleCam. Located in a 100 foot tall Douglas fir tree, the bald eagle pair have been actively building their nest and should be able to be observed increasingly as the mating season and pair-bonding is upon us. This bald eagle cam was installed with a landowner’s invitation and cooperation and with the hope to share the unique views and interactions of a dramatically situated bald eagle nest.”

Lake Washington is in the northwest corner of Washington state, not really all that far from Seattle.

Based on last year's experience, look for eggs in mid-March, chicks in late April, and fledging in mid July.

2008-2009 Season:

• adults return: one adult seen in the nest September 27
• egg(s) laid: March 22, 3:45 am; maybe March 24, 7:19 pm (based on observation of adult's activity - cam doesn't look into the nest bowl)
• hatched: seen April 28, 2:00 pm (37 days); April 30, 2:25 am (37 days)
• fledged: about July 16 (79 days) and July 17 (78 days)
• last seen: both Aug 11, one Aug 14 (about 105 days, or 15 weeks)

Yes they were right before it started to get dark tonite Sept 27 2008

Thanks, Kitten. I don't know what part of the state this nest is located, but that's good to know that one of the eagles has returned. David Hancock is giving a presentation on the Northwest Washington eagles on Oct. 8th at 7 PM in the Blaine Public Library.

Both eagles were there at first light - did they roost there together?

Dad Flew off at 0951

ETA - Mum followed at 0959

Not eagles - but there's a person in the nest!

I think a bit of both - the camera is definitely clearer than it was, and I think they've pulled it back a little bit - here's a comparison picture from May 3

Actually, they may have moved it a bit as well - will be interesting to see the nest with an eagle or two to add to the comparison!

It looks like they have put a light on at night now too

I didn't think to look after dark - that is exciting news, kittenface! Though it may make it harder for me to get enough sleep.

I forgot to bring home the pictures I took while they were working on the cam - will try to remember today so I can add them tonight.

Hooray! I was hoping we'd see one (or two!) eagles in the nest soon! I know they usually don't "mind" if people do maintenance this time of year - but I always hold my breath a little!
