There are two cams, one looking at the nest from the side, and the other over the nest looking in. Both have night vision and constant 15-second refresh views, and one can be streaming with sound. They initially have the wide view streaming, and plan to switch to the overhead view when the eagles are nesting. The cam uses satellite internet, so the connection may be slow at times.

The cam is located in central Maine, and according to BioDiversity Research Institute (BRI) the nest has been occupied every year since 2001 (and the territory has been used at least on and off for the last 30 or more years).

This is the first year there's be a cam on this nest, so we don't know when they might lay eggs; my guess is that they won't be significantly earlier than the Maine Coast nest (where eggs are likely in the first half of March, chicks in mid-April, and fledging in early July), and they might be as much as a month later - so unless BRI has some additional data, we'll just have to wait and see! :D

2009 Season:
  • cam online: January 27, 2009
  • eggs laid: March 31, around 5 pm; probably April 3, at dusk (seen April 4)
  • hatched: May 7, 3:50 pm (37 days); May 9, 5:15 am (36 days)
  • fledged: July 21, 5:39 am (75 days); July 23, 4:19 pm (75 days)
  • last seen: both Sept 6 (122 days)(~17 weeks); one Oct 31 (175 days)(~25 weeks)

The light on the nest at night looks awfully bright!!
I do hope it's a proper night light and not a real light which will deprive them of sleep!!

well...at least we know it is infrared and puts out a good light source...for the viewers....now they need to increase the bandwidth or do something so the cam does not buffer as much. :ecwink

Not sure which "both" you're asking about. There's the Nest II refresh page and the Nest II live streaming link (and, by the way, they've said they can only stream from one cam on Nest II at a time - but they can switch from one cam to another, so it's my guess the cam over the nest will be the one they stream while there are (fingers crossed) small chicks in the nest). There are also refresh and streaming links for the original Maine nest. I haven't tried having both streaming cams open at the same time - I think it should work, but as both have WMP embedded in them, I suppose it might be a problem. I also know they're having some problems with the cams, and we've been having a lot of snowy weather, which may interfere with almost anything.

If it's still a problem, please let me know which pages won't play nicely together, and I'll see if I can see why! :D

Thanks for the pictures, soph9 and Debbie - even though this nest is in my home state, I don't seem to get time to watch it as much as I'd like. :D
