Yes, we're a little bit goofy, alright. Although, last year was way worse for me because of all that went on then. I was literally glued to my computer for hours on end, getting nothing done, until finally things turned out okay in the end. I would come home from school, go right to the computer and either be thrilled that Sidney was alive and apparently had been fed, or devastated to find out that he was being bullied and was hungry. I sat in front of this computer and cried for him and sometimes I was so upset that I couldn't sleep. How's that for insane? That was a real emotional roller coaster. This year was so much easier to watch.

Funny - I was just reading in the local paper today about a little brown spotted owl - these little guys live in old growth forests and are declining because their habitat is slowly disappearing. There are less than 20 left in BC, so the government has undertaken a project to raise them in captivity. So far they have captured one juvenile and one adult whose name just happens to be Skye! The biologists are so protective of this little owl that only certain people are allowed to approach him and they must wear clothing similar to what we have to don if we go into ICUs in the hospital.

Neat. (I just saw this post) I love owls too! I want to go out at night and see if I can find some. But not tonight.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Well, Dad is still sitting there and the sun has gone down. It will forever amaze me how eagles can sit for hours and hours on end. At the beach we can go for our walk, return and see the eagle(s) sitting in the exact same spots.

Our beach is getting cleaned up, slowly. It will take months, they say. They showed on TV the birds (mostly Canada Geese) that had been totally covered in oil being released. They apparently didn't lose any that were picked up - all were cleaned up. I only heard a report of one dead bird and that was a loon that was found way beyond the spill area. There are signs all over the place down there asking the public to phone a certain number to report any sightings of oily birds and they apparently had about 50 of them.

Okay - Dad is still there and I'm off to read for a while. What a super treat to have been able to see one of our Saanich family at the end of an empty nest day! Goodnight all.

There he goes! I was sitting here watching one of the little renters go into the basement and thinking how safe for them it must be in there - safe from weather and predators - what would dare attack them with Mom and Dad so protective of the nest? Nice. Well, now I'm really leaving. Good night again  .

Morning Nesters,

It was just a few minutes ago that I went to bed. Yawn. I guess I didn't miss much since then. J1...we missed you and you missed Dad. I tried to holler at you but you must have been fast asleep.

Have a great day everyone...

Pye

Mornin` Pye, and all you other early bird Nesters:

Just finished reading all your posts from last night. And darn - wouldn`t you know it - I missed Dad! And that, after watching all day - and nothing! Now where is the justice here, I ask you?

Anyway, so glad to know you had a great long view. Also glad, because it means they haven`t flown the coop yet! :D Or maybe he was giving us all a nice long goodbye. Either way, it was great - and I missed the whole darn thing. So much for 4 hour time difference, and 'early to bed'.

Hope you all have a great day today. I have company coming from away, but I`ll try to pop in and check the nest whenever I can. :)

Sorry Beth, I missed you. Good morning. Hope you can stay cool in that heat. We must have been posting at the same time. I appreciate your wanting to contact me last night - so thoughtful :!: 8) :D

Later. :)

Some peeping off and on throughout the day, from a distance - but no visuals.

BBL. :)

Hi folks: :)

Nest all quiet and empty - as it has been all day!

Thanks mesmerized for the link to Soundguy`s cleanup crew - it is pricless :!:

Hey Beth - hope your heat wasn`t as bad as anticipated. Awful about the loss of animals from the heat. They just don`t have the amenities that we have.

Company still here - so I may not be back tonight. If not, have a great one. :D

Hi all....finally home after busy day. Tonight is my last night at home...start holidays tomorrow and off to the cottage. Will have 2 weeks there alone as hubby not on vacation yet. He'll come on weekends. Will have a house-full on the weekend....cottage-full I should say..relatives from BC coming for Mom's 91st on Sunday. Plus kids grandkids with husbands etc. A real bon fete..we say bun fight. Will have laptop but on the slo mo again. Debs will be back soon to take up her lead rebel spot.

Where's the bird tonight, you think? Have not read the other threads so no clue what's up. A few peeps heard here and there? Thanks for posting Judith. Hope you are having fun with the company. Beth, I hate hearing about dead animals....it's awful  Lordy, let's hope it will cool down for you soon. Our weather has become much more bearable but OH, I wish it would rain!

Mesmerized, thanks for your post too. I did see that video. Some of the things posted on that thread are outstanding.

I'm going to turn on the cam screen. I'm almost afraid to...last night, when I did that, I got nothing done for the rest of the night....and I don't have time to be a bird-brain tonight. Although, we did have fun, didn't we?

Pye

Does your father-in-law still have a wife? If not, maybe we should introduce them.

Some kind of siren going off....does not sound like police. Maybe airport?Maybe Skye has entered restricted air-space.

Yes, we can introduce them!! My husband's mother has been gone 30 years and his dad never remarried. Pye, be sure to check in when you can, the branch will be lonely the next 2 weeks without you, Debs, Jude.... Take care (Beth)

Nobody to be seen sitting on any branch anywhere tonight. Da, where are you? Skye, can you let us have a peak at you? Just one teeniny widdle glimpse? We wanna check your wings to make sure they're ready for your big trip. And your toesies to make sure they're ready for perching in unfamiliar trees. And we need to see your dear wee face one more time to make sure we recognize you when you come back home.

Pye

It's another empty nest and not much sound, either, except the wind and the odd airplane.
Have a great time at the cabin, Pye.
I'm sorry you have that awful heat, Beth, and so sad that animals have died because of it.
Congrats to all your 90+ relatives. Pretty amazing isn't it? Think of all the changes they've seen and all the things they've done in all those years.

I really enjoyed the "Clean up Crew" video. Too cute. Thanks for posting it, mes.

I'm off to sit outside on the porch for a while with a cup of tea, my husband and Buffy, my cat.

jwnix-Yes, they were at the fair showing the livestock. :( Terrible temps this week in Ohio and a large portion of the USA. 99 years old, that is wonderful. Beth (Hi Karen)

the reason I asked was to wonder if it was indeed at the fair, wouldn't it have been better to take them home? I realize that their fate once at the fate is not always a green pasture, just seems horrific to die from heat at a fair.....

predicting we may get to 85 by midnite tonight....!! some rain would be most welcome and cooling!!!
