I just remember I scooped this info out of the diary.... Tony and Donna are our pair...I didn't get to the other birds yet...but there are hatchings to watch!!!!!

Quote:
The first egg was laid on the 20th of April, the second on the 22nd, third on the 24th and fourth on the 26th.

Incubation typically starts after the second egg has been laid, but the nest is usually cooled occasionally up until the final egg of the clutch has been laid. Incubation is between 30 and 38 days depending on location and weather

Thanks for bringing us another stork cam SS and for starting the thread BB.

What beautiful birds. Now, if I can just find the time to squeeze one more cam into my limited viewing schedule

I finally have a nice view of this nest, one parent sitting on it. You are right, Surfside, the sounds are great - I think I hear a cuckoo calling.

Within the week, I think. They are not sure of the exact incubation length, having not been able to observe many black storks go through the process. It also differs depending on where the nest is located geographically. I'm very excited about this one!!!! They look ready - look at all that soft bedding material piled up!!! This pair isn't taking any chances!

The eggs are almost hatching - Mom is busy bringing in piles of nest materials. The stream is a bit choppy today but here's a clip of some of the activity 2:46

Excellent video! Love watching the male (?) flying in with the grass.

Found this on the website:

Among all members of the stork family (by zoological classification "Ciconiidae"), the Black Stork is the most widely distributed in the world. According to reseach conducted by colleagues in Latvia, Black Storks have been recorded in 105 countries, with nesting birds in
44 countries and wintering birds in 26 countries. The distribution range is widening in Western Europe, however the rows of these stork ambassadors in our region are thinning.

The first recording of Black Stork nesting in South Africa is from 1908.

Thanks Bociany. This website is full of great information. I am still having trouble telling Tony and Donna apart - something not helped by the cam going down this week. It will be up again soon, but the comfort of the parents is most important, as it should be.

Apparently while the cam was down, the chicks hatched!

There is a note on the website dated today, May 28, that the cam is up and the chicks have arrived. No note as to how many. I could not get a picture, though, probably the middle of the night over there at the moment.

The diary has been updated...apparently the cam interference was a gremlin :P . If you want to see something really cool - go into "This week in Pictures" and click on the bird section. Fantastic shots of all kinds of birds!!!!
