THREAD CHARTER: This thread is for posts, pictures, and comments about the Fledge Fest Gathering on July 12. The primary location was the Sidney nest site, but other nests were also visited, including
Sidney Nest
Brentwood Nest
Oak Bay Firehall Nest
Oak Bay Golf Course Nest and
Anderson Hill Nest aka Blueberry Hill Nest!!

All of these nest were attended by most of the "fledge fest members" and they are all in the Victoria area!! :D
We invite anyone who was at the July 12 gathering to post your pictures here! 8)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I would like open this thread and invite anyone and everyone to post pictures and video of Fledge day!!
We were a total of 30+ people who attended at the nest area the morning of July 12, 2007!! Many people took video and pictures of the fledging!!
I do have pictures to post but sad to admit I did NOT actually see the fledge, as I was down at the Beach area, watching Dad soaring with Lil? and watching an osprey flying and a heron fishing!! :cry: David Hancock came down to the beach area and announced to us all that Skye had fledged at exactly 12:41pm, July 12th!! We did talk to Skipper on the telephone earlier that morning to come to understand that Skye's actual maiden flight was at 9AM!!!! You all say it first!!
Here are my pictures of the day!! I do not have eagle pictures, only people pictures! My camera is not designed to take "faraway pictures" BUT we had David Hancock, Mr Sheep, Harry and Keta taking alot of professional pictures and videos.
We are going to be posting pictures/video's of 5 nests we attended yesterday. We actually witness another fledging!! 8)
We first went to the "Sidney Nest" to visit with Skye, Mom, Dad and we suspect Lil!!! 8)
We then went to a big luncheon, then off to the "Brentwood Nest, which had 3 eaglets raised in. We witnessed a fledging there!!! We then went to the "Oak Bay Nest" It is located directly behind the Oak Bay firehall and police station!! There were 2 big and beautiful juvies in that nest!!
We then went to the "Oak Bay Golf Course Nest" which had 2 juvies in there! We then went over to the "Anderson Hille Nest aka Blueberry Hill Nest"...........there was a juvie (chicken) in the nest and learned that the other juvie had fledged 2 weeks ago!! Hence the "chicken" comment :lol: :lol:
So this thread is open and I will post my pictures in a bit...........!!
Enjoy everyone and please post on!!! :arrow: :arrow:
Thank you, David for your kind words.
It was indeed a very special day for all of us. I'm still so excited that I have to share it with others- my family is luke warm on the entire 'Eagle thing'.
Which I find very frustrating. Hello to all the Fledgers who were at the nest site. I can't tell you how deeply moved I was to meet all of you, from all over, and some from Toronto- Gogee and Mr. Gogee, especially!
Anyway, I have posted this thread in '2007 Nest Discussion' and mentioned our famous "pics'n'vids" thread as well. So, hopefully many people can see and read what kinds of adventure we had at the nest site. Regretfully, I left and didn't get to visit the other nests. But, I promised Elle and Harry that I'd be back to do that soon!
Have a great day everyone!
John :D 8) :D
Hey all you fortunate Canadians who partied on Fledge Day! Thanks for sharing the pictures. Even though the rest of us couldn't be there, it was good tp see what transpired (and to experience the rare faces-to-names). What a lucky day for all of you.
David, thank you from the bottom of my heart for introducing me to the eagles. Thanks also for today's post.
Karenb - I now it took a great deal of time to organise the day - well done!
Bev, Richard and John - great photos, and Harry your video of the group - super!
'Elle' - thank you for arranging and making the reservation for lunch at the 'Rum Runners'.
Skipper, you did a superlative job! As did all the other members who captured such wonderful memories of the day!
To MJH and all the Mods who couldn't join us - rest assured you were with us in spirit!
Yesterday was the most incredible day! Brilliant sunshine, the chance to meet more 'eagleholics', and above all to share Skye's fledge day with so many wonderful and interesting folks. I was one who just missed the actual 12:41 pm fledge, as I was rounding the entrance to the viewing area after a walk to the top of the icnline leading down to the beach!. I envy those who continued on to the other nests after lunch (I headed home after lunch) - via the nest - but Skye was either flying or having a well deserved rest!!
Here come the clickable pictures - and yes - there is one of Harry!
A big thank you to Karenb and everyone else who worked so hard to make this event happen :D . It was wonderful to see David and Richard again, and to meet David's wife Mary and Dr. David Bird, and so many of the other forum members and moderators that we interact with every day on the forums. It was indeed a day of many wonderful memories and I wouldn't have missed it for anything :!: I will post pictures later; I had to go to work today :x :x .
Thank you, BBE and EN for the great pics! Richard, do you not know how to do clickables?? :shock:
I have two pics, but cannot post them yet. Can I use Photo Bucket, guys?
They do not have the nest or Skye in them! LOL........
Wonderful to meet everyone! Harry and elle were geat tour guides, too.
I just heard peeping from the nest area!!!! 7:26 pm...yay, he's still around! Just like LIL! :D
I was one of the ones who went to the beach while the fledge was happening! Will have to view Skipper's vids! Could not access them on low signal in hotel here.....will try the lobby one later.
David and Mary Hancock are one lovely couple! Seeing so many there was a treat! I hope Skye saw what he created! 30 odd people skittering all over to catch a glimpse!
(I don't mean "odd" people, you know what I mean!)
Hello everyone at Fledge-fest!!
I am so overwhelmed at your observations, pics & videos...this was awesome to hear let alone SEE through your eyes with captures & video clips. If you only knew how much this is appreciated to those (like me) who couldn't be there.
And then to see faces when I only knew user-names.....that was pretty special too!!
Harry, you've outdone yourself (yet again) and I thank you!! WOW!!!
Our Skye is truly an excellent flier and like all you, I wish him only the best. I've been away for so long but so happy to see a joyous outcome of another successful nest & fledge. Who could ask for more!!
And then to see video of what must be our Lil' Sid???....and to hear Hornby's nest is also fertile this year with 2 chicks???...
this just made my day!!!...actually, it made my year!!!
I would like to thank David, Richard, the Mod-Squad and ALL you viewers who made this possible.
It was an incredible journey that I will never forget!!!
All the best to you!!! :D
More to come: Thanks, everyone, for posts and pictures of the Fledge Fest. Just letting you know that I have lots of pictures to put here of our wonderful day yesterday and will upload them as soon as possible.
Catarina - how wonderful to see you posting here!
Waxwing59, who lives about 500 yards from the nest, was there in the evening of fledge day - July 12th - and has posted a link to some pictures and videos taken at that time. The link to these is here
